Boko Haram Struck Again In Borno State

The feared Islamic organization, Boko Haram, has propelled yet another assault. The group assaulted a town in Borno, some place around the Askira region.

Ebola Striken Italian doctor’s condition worsens

An Italian doctor with Ebola which he got while working in Sierra Leone has taken a flip for the more serious, the hospital treating him has confirmed.

Is this a sorry case or? What more can be said that this is a bad-bad call to those who lost loved ones and properties in recent Boko Haram attacks.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared, yesterday, that the Federal Government would not pay compensation to victims of Boko Haram’s atrocities.

He also said despite the progress made by the nation’s security services in their fight against the sect’s insurgency, his administration could not be said to have won the war against terror.

He spoke, yesterday, when the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North submitted its report.

He expressed regret at the extreme violence of the group, especially against innocent civilian population, which had earned it a reputation as the most deadly terror group in the world.

President Jonathan expressed hope that the recommendations made by the committee in its report would help bring the excesses of the sect’s members to an end.

While ruling out compensation for victims of the violence orchestrated by the sect, the president however, said his government was favourably disposed to the suggestion by the committee to assist victims get back on track.

President Jonathan reinforced the recommendation of the committee that dialogue with the sect should continue, adding that force alone cannot resolve the insurgency in the north.

He rejected the call for payment of compensation for victims of the crisis.

The president commended members of the committee for accepting to serve, saying that “it’s not a ballroom dance because you were asked to meet the kind of characters you cannot predict their behaviour.

“It is quite risky and I believe that some of you, within this period, your immediate families believed that if they used to pray two times, they will be praying 10 times to make sure that God see you through.

Following a marathon meeting that lasted for nothing less than 13 hours, the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, said he and the leadership team would now go and inform their protesting members on the details of the deliberations.

The Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, told newsmen at the earlier today that the leaders would take President Jonathan’s message back to other members of the union for a resolution.

A visibly elated Fagge, who was spotted smiling while emerging from the meeting venue at about 3.35 a.m. failed to give details of the meeting.

He said, “Well, we have had a lengthy meeting with Mr. President, rubbing minds on how best to address the problem of University education in this country.


“And we now have a message from Mr. President, that we are taking to our members. And we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr. President.”

On whether the lecturers will call off the strike, he said: “That is up to our members.”

After been asked what the message was, he said, “I can’t tell you. It’s not for you. It is for our members.”

When questioned further on whether he was impressed by the message, he said: “Don’t put words into my mouth. Our members will determine that.”

Market women protest ASUU strike at National Assembly (SEE)

It seems its not just the students that are affected by the ASUU strike as protesting traders, under the aegis of National Market Women Association, Monday, stormed the National Assembly, demanding that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, call off its more than three months old strike.
The protesters, who had been at the Ministry of Education and Office of the Head of Service, arrived the Assembly complex at 11.30a.m.

The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani, who led the more than 200 protesting women, said: “We are tired of seeing our children at home. We want our children back in school. Enough of this cheap blackmail.

“We all know what they do with our year-one daughters in the university. We equally know that they sell handouts and handbooks.

“Is this not worse than corruption of the highest order?”

The President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani when asked why she did not criticize the Federal Government for failing to reach an agreement with ASUU said: “Which agreement? How do you expect lecturers in state universities to earn same salaries as Federal ones? That is impossible.

“We are not educated, but you do not expect a hotel in my village to cost same price as a hotel in Abuja.

“They are located in different places. So how can a state university lecturer earn same salary with his federal counterpart?

“We are begging them for the last time. If we come out again we may have to chase them out of this country and replace them with so many jobless Nigerians.”

The massacre happened in the early hours of the morning at the College of Education, Gujba, Yobe State.
Islamic sect - Boko Haram - was alleged to be the group behind the assault.

The advertising body of Nigeria were having a conference in the banquet hall of popular Sheraton hotel in Lagos today, when the roof of the hall began to leak.



The participants of the event then rushed for another room to continue the conference but minutes later, the roof began to collapse in tinges and then down it went.
Occupants of the room had to take their heels and left the hall immediately.

$9m theft in Nwankwo Kanu's Hotel - The Story

Former Super Eagles star Nwankwo Kanu has lost a staggering $9m (about N 1.4 billion) to fraudsters. A top executive of his hotel has been arrested and charged to court.
According to PM News reports, Managing director of Hardley Suites Hotel in Lagos, Ayoola Gam Ikon was arrested and charged to court for the alleged fraud.
Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit arrested the suspect, Mr. Ikon, for allegedly stealing the sum of N1.4 billion belonging to the hotel owned by Kanu. Also arrested along with him over the alleged fraud is a hotel staff, Oke Samuel.

The police alleged in charge suit No. K/8/2013 that Ikon was arrested following a complaint by the management of Hardley Suites Limited, Nwankwo Kanu and Ogbonna Kanu, that Ikon between 2005 and 2012 allegedly defrauded them of the sum ofabout N1.4 billion on the pretense of using the money to expand the existing facilities of the hotel by constructing and furnishing of additional blocks of 30 suites and conference facilities.
