Giuliana Ranic is
grateful that her husband is alive and healthy after he jumped out of an
airplane just moments before two other soldiers had a mid-air collision that
ended in tragedy.
Reports
say Bill Rancic, 44, attended the Chicago Air and Water show
on Saturday, August 15 and successfully parachuted out of a plane where his
wife and son, Duke Rancic, were waiting.
He landed safely, but the two following
parachutists were not so lucky, and they collided in mid-air. One jumper with
the U.S. Navy Leap Frog team landed in front of the boathouse at North Avenue
Beach and Sgt. Corey Hood with the U.S. Army Golden Knights was pronounced
dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after landing on a building following
the collision.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, spectator Heather Mendenhall described
seeing Hood after he collided in the air with the other jumper. “His legs
caught the tip of the roof, and then he fell over. It was horrible.''
Sgt. 1st
Class Corey Hood, 32, was a decorated soldier, logging more than 200 free fall
jumps and 75 military static line jumps according to his Army biography stated.
Giuliana
has asked for prayers for the two men before it was announced that Hood had died.
His family member wrote her page about his death. ''He was taken off of life
support this morning. Thank you for all of your prayers,'' they noted.
