The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River
State, Mr. John Okon, has expressed confidence that the candidates of the party
would emerge victorious at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Calabar.
Okon
spoke on Tuesday in Calabar during an interactive session with journalists.
He said
candidates of the PDP that won the 2015 National Assembly and House of Assembly
elections carried out massive campaigns to sell their manifestoes, adding that
they were duly elected.
Okon
said, “Cross River is traditionally a PDP state. We worked tirelessly during
the elections and I don’t think anybody should say that the election was rigged.
“We are
aware of the petitions at the tribunal. It is normal in every society. But the
PDP in Cross River is confident that none of its candidates would lose at the
tribunal or have his or her election nullified.
“I am
happy that we have cleared the petitions of the All Progressives Congress and
Labour Party against Governor Ben Ayade and I am confident that we will
prevail.
“As the
chairman of the party in the state, I know we performed well in the election
and our lawyers are there to present the facts at the tribunal.
“Those
who took our candidates to court are living on hope. We are not entertaining
any fear whether there is a forensic auditing or whatever. Election results
from all the 18 local government areas in the state showed that the PDP won massively
at the polls and we have the evidences.”
