Jack Warner Received $10m From South African To Host 2010 World Cup

South African officials have said the country did pay $10m to former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, but deny that it was a bribe to secure hosting rights for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to the head of the country’s FA, Danny Jordaan, the amount was deducted from a Fifa payment to the country in 2008, and was sent to the Caribbean Football Union, which Warner was also the president of.

US prosecutors alleged however that the money was promised to Warner in exchange for South Africa hosting the first ever World Cup in Africa.

The allegations surfaced amidst a crisis in FIFA, that has seen 7 top officials arrested.
