In their bid to empower and positively engage the youth to find expression and achieve their talents and potentials, a contest has been created to make this a possibility.
In Nigeria, the youth population amounts for a greater percentage, however the gap here is, there is no direct platform for either expression, positive engagement or the harnessing and projection of their innate abilities, thus “VANGUARD SPARK' was created, with a unique blend of entertainment and empowerment which is positioned to fill this gap.
Vanguard Spark is the Youth Empowerment arm of Vanguard Media Limited.
It is a product of a strategic partnership between Vanguard Media Limited and Ice-One Media.
The Vanguard “Spark” creates a platform where Youths can interact with leaders of industry who can provide guidance, mentorship and a vast array of resources to them on their path to success.
Their signature monthly contest is called the Rookie contest and it’s a way of empowering one youth with a business or a skill to achieve success.
Olamide Orefeko, a marketing student at Babcock University and CEO of Lami’s Clothier, won the Rookie contest in August and on the 26th of September, was empowered with a 100,000 naira cash grant and a personal counselling session with Honourable Ben Akabueze, the Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget.

In September, Delords Austin Amuzie, an internet marketer and the young CEO of Delords Media won the Rookie contest and on the 26th of October, was empowered with free workspace in Lekki phase 1 and internet platform for six months courtesy Edmund Olotu, the former GM of HITV and serial tech entrepreneur.

In October, Tobun Oluwamitosin Hanna, a Creative Blogger, won the Rookie contest and on the 26th of October, was empowered with Social Media Internship at Contagious Collective courtesy Illrymz, Entertainment industry icon and Nigerian Idol host.

Also in October, Yusuf Onabekun, an Internet Marketer, was the runner up to the Rookie contest and on the 10th of December, he was empowered with NGN90,000 worth of Business Consulting courtesy Emeka Azinge, CEO Emedith Consulting.

The December Rookie contest has already started and this month, one youth will be empowered with Paid internship for 3 months with SuperGeeks courtesy, Sam Uduma, Co-founder SuperGeeks as a way to boost skill acquisition.
One rookie will benefit from the crowd-funding package and achieve business success. The question is, who?
