Boko Haram attack kills 40; Injures 12 in Gulumba village, Borno State

Boko Haram continued its onslaught on people of Gulumba village as well as travelers along Bama, Gwoza Firgi area over the weekend killing several persons.

DailyPost gathered that 13 persons were killed on Saturday along Firgi Area while 27 persons were killed on Thursday in Gulumba attack, which also left 12 others injured.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH.

Alhaji Baba Shehu, the caretaker committee chairman of Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, confirmed on Monday the killing of 13 persons at Firgi area as well as 27 persons by suspected Boko Haram militants during an attack in Gulumba village last Thursday.

Shehu gave the confirmation while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri.

He said that 12 persons were also injured in the early morning raid.

“Gunmen numbering about 70 riding on about 15 motorcycles and hilux vans attacked the village last Thursday.

“They shot down 27 persons, injured 12 and set ablaze buildings. About 300 houses were burnt; forty shops and ten grinding machines were also destroyed. Also, about 1000 domestic animals were also killed in addition to about N4 million cash belonging to the villagers”, he disclosed.

The council boss further stated that the local government had assisted in the burial of the victims, adding that “the 12 injured persons are receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, with the council paying their medical bill,.

He said that the attack was the second in the series.

“Few days before last Sallah, 16 persons were shot while two others were slaughtered at Goneri village by the same suspected Boko Haram militants”, he added.

He said communities in the area had threatened to migrate except security was guaranteed by government.

According to him, “I have spoken with the state governor on the issue and he had promised to beef off security to safeguard lives and property in the area”.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima will be visiting Gulumba village tomorrow, (Tuesday) to see the extent of damage by the insurgents, to condole the people and determine the kind of compensation for the victims.
