Bomb explosions and gunfire hit Yobe State [BREAKING NEWS]

Follow @NaijaTalkative

Heavy explosions and gunfire rocked Potiskum in Yobe state on Wednesday, residents said, after violence this week left at least 24 people dead in the sister city of Maiduguri in Borno state. Blasts and shootings shook residents of the town, previously hit hard by violence blamed on the extremist group Boko Haram, residents said.

The police commissioner for Yobe state, where Potiskum is located, said there had been a bomb explosion and security forces afterward cordoned off the area and began house-to-house searches. He did not say whether there had been any casualties.
"There was a bomb explosion this morning and the Joint Task Force has already cordoned off the area for the safety of residents,"
Patrick Egbuniwe said, referring to a military and police task force.

"Right now, there is a house-to-house search by JTF to fish out the perpetrators of the terror attack." Residents said the unrest began just before 6:00 am.

"It started with a huge explosion followed by successive blasts and gunfire," one resident told
AFP. The blasts and gunfire came from an area of the town where a bank, a military base and the office of the anti-narcotics agency are located, residents said.
Potiskum, the capital of Yobe state, has been hard hit by Boko Haram attacks in recent months.

Kidnappers demand N30million ransom for the release of 2 children in calabar

Follow @NaijaTalkative

It seems to be a season for kidnappers as they hold
to ransom both the young and old in different states and sectors.
The recent one was the abduction of two school children along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River State,
yesterday morning. Eyewitness account claimed that the three gunmen were masked, ” it was only the driver that did not cover his face”
The ugly incident happened as their mother, Mrs. Juliet Eko James was conveying them to school at about 7.30am on Tuesday morning.

In a telephone chat with the press, the father of the kidnapped children, Mr. Johnson Eko James, narrated how it all happened.
“My wife and our three children were driving out of our street into the highway and suddenly, some people in a Vento salon car accosted her, using their car to block my wife’s car.
They came out pointing a gun at my wife and asked for her mobile telephone.
When she handed over her phone, they then picked up our four-year-old daughter.
The elder brother, Emmanuel, 10 years old questioned why they were taking his sister away, they picked him up as well. It was at that point that our second child, a seven-year-old, ran out of the car heading back to the house.”

The civil servant who works with Cross River State civil service confirmed that he had already made a formal complaint to the Police command at the Federal Housing Estate Police division in Calabar.
However, the kidnappers called him later at noon, demanding for N30million ransom or risk t lose his two children.
Mr. James lamented that despite his wife’s appeals
to the dare-devil kidnappers to take their car, a Toyota Sienna, in place for their children, heartless armed men insisted and left with the children. When contacted to confirm the incident, the State’s Police spokesman, John Umoh said he was yet to get any report from the Divisional Police Officer of the police station.

This conversation transpired between a guy and a radio host while presenting a Shout Out programme on air.

Radio Host: So, what do you have for us toda
y?
John: I found a wallet in a bus containing 24,000 Naira, an ATM card with the PIN written on it and a gold chain.
Radio Host: Okay,
John: The owner's ID is Akpos Uwanebu
Radio Host: Do you want to return the items to the owner?
John: HELL NO!
Radio Host: Then why did you call?

Nigerians should adopt the second stanza of The National Anthem. Really?

Follow @NaijaTalkative
I was watching a news program on local TV this morning and the Featured Story was that "Nigerians should adopt the second stanza of the National Anthem as a prayer"
It led to a very interactive session in my house which I enjoyed and I sat down noting some points.Right on TV, some citizens where interviewed and were asked for their opinions on this issue.

Yes! Patriots concurred and promised to adopt it right from today. That's nice!

There were oppositions and I dug into two of them and here we go:
It's a waste of time when we adopt the second stanza of the National Anthem as prayer if we don't work towards it.
- The Bible says 'Faith without works is Dead' in James 2vs26
Another man said:
How do you expect a hungry man to root the second stanza of the National Anthem? Nigerians are hungry! Deal with that first and we will happily adopt it.
- I love this!

So you've heard from some of the masses, what's your opinion? Kindly leave your comment below.
