According to Mirror United Kingdom, the baby found the loaded gun and shot, striking his 26-year-old mother, Christa Engles within the head at her house in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Engles' husband, a driver was on the road, arrived home when hearing concerning the shooting and was only able to make sure his wife's death by contacting the hospital.
Police say the woman's mother came in and purportedly found the 2 youngsters lined in blood, adding that there was plenty of guns within the house.
Police say the boy apparently found the large-calibre gun beneath the lounge.
Tulsa detective sergeant Dave Walker said:
"We are prepared to do what we have to do to keep the kid safe - we think this is a horrible, horrible accident."
