Barcelona’s appeal against the yellow card given Lionel Messi last weekend has been rejected by the Spanish football Federation, AFP reports.
Messi was celebrating along with his team-mates when Barca’s 94th-minute winner over Valencia once he was hit on the top by a bottle thrown from the stands at the Mestalla.
The Argentine was examined by a member of the visitors’ medical workers when the ultimate whistle and failed to seem to be injured, giving the thumbs-up as he walked off the pitch.
The referee same in his match report the card was shown as a result of Messi “delayed his come back to the centre of the pitch when the goal was scored with the intention of wasting time”, and also the RFEF’s competition committee has confirmed the appeal has been rejected.
Valencia have vowed to ban the bottle-throwing fan from their ground forever if the person is known.
