Obasanjo and Tinubu reportedly at war over Ministerial List nominees

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu are reportedly at war over President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees.
According to New Telegraph, the trouble started when Tinubu nominated former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Edun as Finance Minister to fill the Ogun State slot.

Obasanjo is said to have subsequently called the APC leader and warned him against choosing Edun for Ogun when his work and career were rooted in Lagos State.
According to sources, the former president’s recent visits to Buhari were based on his nominations for the ministerial list.

According to New Telegraph, some of Obasanjo’s nominees include: former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); former Governor of Ekiti State and now the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Segun Oni (Ekiti); Mustapha (Ogun); former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili and former Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
“Tinubu and Akande’s visit to President Buhari on September 9 was an impromptu meeting. An influential official in the presidency told them of Obasanjo’s surreptitious moves to corner the ministerial nominees from the South-West. This is why the two leaders visited,” a source said.

Obasanjo visited Buhari on September 8 while Tinubu visited the president on September 9. The APC leader however denied that his visit to Buhari was in connection with the president’s ministerial list.
Buhari is set to name his ministers before September 30 despite recently saying that ministers are just noisemakers like politicians.

Tinubu —My meeting with Buhari not about ministerial list

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, September 9, dismissed the insinuation that his meeting with the President was about the ministerial list due for release this month, while also debunking claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the APC-led Federal Government was dictatorial in nature. Tinubu, who was fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, said the president had been adhering strictly to rule of law.

According to him, president Buhari should rather be commended for stimulating the economy across the states of the federation. "I disagree with that. He was elected on a platform of democracy and he has adhered to rule of law so far. "What is dictatorship about what he has done? He has helped to stimulate the economy in the various states and that is where the people are. "So, what is dictatorship? And the institutional paralysis had occurred in the country.

 "It is very important for a steady man like the President to really help the nation recover from the paralysis and that is what he is doing. So, I don't see what is dictatorial about that. "If they don't have anything to say, they rather be quiet. They created what is wrong here today and we cannot sweep that under the carpet. There must be rule of law.’’ Tinubu also debunked the assertion that some APC chieftains including him, Chief Bisi Akande and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar were engaged in political struggle over the party’s Board of Trustees’ position. "Don't listen to rumours, there is no struggle. Our party is not even looking at the direction of power struggle or anything of such.

"The support structure is to encourage and support the President as you have heard from Chief Bisi Akande, to help him institutionalise his goal, principle and vision for a new Nigeria,’’ he added Tinubu, who was accompanied by the former national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, refuted the insinuation that he was in the Presidential Villa to discuss ministerial list to be announced by the president before the end of the month.

 Northern House of Representatives members led by the Senior Special Adviser to President Buhari on House of Representatives matters, Suleiman Kawu, paid a courtesy visit to the National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos today September 2nd.

Tinubu was Buhari tricked to get power back to the North - Afenifere chieftain says

 Afenifere chieftain and Chairman of the defunct Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference, Senator Femi Okunrounmu says President Buhari tricked former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu to get into power. In an interview with Punch, Okunrounmu said it was naive of Tinubu to think he would become a kingmaker immediately Buhari becomes President of Nigeria. "Tinubu’s story is like Afonja in Ilorin in 1817. Ilorin used to be under the Oyo Empire and was the headquarters of an Oyo General, Afonja. But Afonja rebelled against the empire and helped bring about its collapse with the assistance of the Fulani. Afonja was assisted by Shehu Alimi, who was a Fulani leader. In 1824 Afonja was assassinated and Alimi’s son became Emir and Ilorin became an emirate of the Sokoto Caliphate. It was naive of Tinubu to think that Buhari would just get power and he (Tinubu) would become the kingmaker of Nigeria. That is what Tinubu expected and that was why we kept reminding him of the Ilorin episode. We told him that once Buhari got power, he would turn around and just forget about him and implement a northern hegemonic agenda which Buhari is doing now. In 1960, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello, made a statement publicly that the northerners should regard Nigeria as their conquered territory and that they own Nigeria. He said the entire South-West and South-East should be regarded as conquered territory and that the North should never allow the South to govern. This statement was widely reported in the media. It was in the West African Pilot of October 12, 1960. The quote was boldly published. So, the keys to the chains of slavery we thought we could use to break free were just given back to the North by the APC. The APC became an agent of oppression and enslavement. We can all see that Buhari only tricked Tinubu to get power back to the North"he said
