Thought we are way pass the issues of fraudsters, but it seem we are wrong.
Now the issue has gone global, as they seem comfortable to operate from any part of the world.
Chonburi Police, in cooperation with Pattaya and Na-Jomtien Police, announced on the morning of Saturday, 14th February the arrest of 6 male Nigerians and 1 man from Ghana, whom were tracked down after being suspected of being involved in an internet scam operation.
The gang, aged from 26 to 40, targeted lonely and naive Thai women aged between 40 and 60 years, with promises of love and wealth from retired millionaires and businessmen via Facebook and Skype – if they sent a small donation to free funds and jewellery being held in bank accounts in Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
The women were also encouraged to invest in bogus high yielding stocks in Nigeria. All 7 men were arrested at an apartment building on Soi 17 off Third Road in South Pattaya, and 7 notebooks, 11 mobile phones were taken away as evidence. They now await a day in court
