As the Protests against fuel hike (Occupy Nigeria) continues, President Goodluck Jonathan recently gave a speech which pointed out that The Removal of fuel subsidy was a great step to move forward.
Below are some quotes from the President speaking with Special Adviser to United Nations Secretary General- Jeffery Sachs in the Presidential Villa:

Jonathan explained that the burden of the subsidy was becoming unwieldy to the extent that the government had to fund the capital budget which was the equivalent of the money used to subsidise fuel with borrowed funds.
-From Jeffery Sach:
While commending the fuels subsidy removal policy as a bold and correct policy, he described the government intervention programmes in rural development in the past 24 months as an innovatively ingenious.
The CGS/LGAs conditional grant scheme for local government area is a very innovative programme. Now, local governments will get federal resources to be able to invest in clinics, schools and safe water, sanitation facilities in order to meet local needs using national resources. But now with better information system to make sure that the money allocated federally really result in the new clinics, the new schools, the new local services" - Jeffery Sach.
Thats not all,

"So, I am very impressed by what the Office of the Special Assistant on MDGs has accomplished and I am very excited about this new programme. The final stage has involved 113 of Nigeria's 744 local government areas. But the SSA, MDGs has said the intention is that it should be a nationwide effort. This is just the beginning but I think there is a great deal of progress that lies ahead and that will be achieved," he said.

In one statement, the Representative of United Nations General commends Jonathan's Administration as a good one and Jonathan took to it. He hereby announces to Nigerians to calm down and wait for the greater achievements ahead.
